Summary
We designed several methods to allow automatic selection of the best copy of replicated web servers based on network proximity, server availability, and server load.
We evaluated the different methods over the Internet.
A complete system, Walrus, that implements wide-area replication for web servers using DNS round trip timing is now publicly available.
