Group Communication Research

Group communication is a powerful model for creating both high performance distributed services and highly resilient, fault-tolerant applications.

Our research focuses on understanding the various models that can be applied to group communication. We then take that understanding and build high performance professional quality advanced software tools and applications.

Group Communication Research Projects:

• Spread Wide Area Multicast and Group Communication Toolkit
  The group communication toolkit developed by the CNDS lab. It currently supports both local area networks and wide area networks while providing services ranging from reliable message passing to fully ordered messages with delivery guarantees even in the case of failures. It is available for download.
• Secure Group Communication
  We are designing security protocols for group communication systems and incorporating specific implementations of secure group communication into Spread.
• Commedia: Multimedia services using group communication models
  The Commedia project is focused on multicast protocols and their usage for various applications such as multimedia conferencing, collaborative design, and interactive media software.
• Efficient Data Replication using group communication
  Research on protocols for high-throughput, low-latency, replication of services and databases using group communication as a tool.
