Me

Who am I?

Well... we're going to get way too philosophical if we try to really answer this question...
So, for the purpose of this web page I think we're gonna stick to what is universally accepted to define the notion of identity:
I am a human being (yes, I know the photo can trick you), born in Bucharest, Romania. Now, if you really want to find out more about me, we'll probably have to meet, or... you may keep reading these pages to get an idea.

Work/Research

"The world is filled with willing people... Some willing to work, the rest willing to let them."
  - - Robert Frost

My research interests lie mostly in the distributed systems area, this being the reason I joined the Center for Networking and Distributed Systems. This gives me the opportunity to work with an incredibly talented group of people under the supervision of my advisor Dr. Yair Amir. Before coming to Hopkins, I attended the Graduate School in Computer Science of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). Before that, I got my CS bachelors degree from Politehnica University of Bucharest. For further details on my background you can have a look at my resume .

My current graduate work focused on building a reliable, fault-tolerant wide-area database replication engine using group communication primitives. Additionally I worked on applying similar techniques to create a more robust Domain Name System (DNS), that can cope with the current requirements.
More generally, I am interested in constructing efficient, scalable, correct distributed algorithms. Secondary areas of interest include network security, privacy and online algorithms.
You can find more details and a list of my publications on my research page.

During the first years at Johns Hopkins I was Teaching Assistant for two very interesting and extremely challenging classes: Operating Systems and Cryptography and Network Security . You can also find a list of classes I took during my graduate years.

Life

"There is more to life than increasing its speed." -- Gandhi

There are a lot of things I enjoy doing and, as time passes by, I keep discovering more. So is there a point in trying to count them all? However, you can have a look and see who my friends are, find out more about me through my movie page or the photography pages which will probably be the most updated sections on this site.
