Notes:
A network capable of running jobs on machines other than their originating machines can balance its load. Various metacomputing projects have demonstrated that such networks are more efficient. Everyone’s work gets done faster.
The Internet suffers from extremely unbalanced loads. At any given time, a vast number of machines sit idle but connected, while other machines grind along slowly under heavy load.
With something like the Java Market in place, the Internet can balance its load across all the connected machines. This increases overall efficiency.
