The Underlying Technology
Jini™ technology includes both a new approach to networks and a substantial tool package for metacomputing. The key feature of this technology is its Object-Oriented nature. A client on a Jini™ network does not need to know the details of a service’s functioning in order to interact with that service. It only needs to understand the basic parameters of a superclass for that service. The superclass can be a general interface that all services of that type follow. Non-automated services can also use a graphic object superclass with an attached user interface.
Particularly with a human user at the helm, Jini™ lets services and clients interact intelligently with minimal information about one another. This makes it easy for the network to grow.
