Static Strategies for the Internet
Notes:
The Java Market, developed in this work, is a prototype system designed to convert the entire Internet into a single metacomputer. This metacomputer would use a variation on the Enhanced PVM Strategy as its basic decision algorithm. This section describes our work on this Market.
The Java Market allows people to “rent out” their idle machines so that others may perform work on them. Since there is no economic or computational benefit to having an idle machine, this can increase the efficiency of global computation.
Users do not have to design their code specifically for the Java Market. It accepts normal Java applications and rewrites them for their new environment.
